The Clock is Ticking

WIP Updateson August 21st, 20102 Comments

Okay, the clock is always ticking. At least as long as it has a battery or is plugged into some power. When I was 35, I set a goal to publish a book before I turned 40. I turned 39 last month. I do have a short story that will be published later this year, but over the past four years, I have “birthed” two manuscripts.

For awhile, it seemed like the clock did stop ticking. I just pushed my goal to the side. Life happened, some of it painful. After a crazy 2009 (I’ve totally moved forward – PRAISE GOD!), I jumped back on track.

I pitched my first manuscript, When Rain Falls, at the 2010 Faith and Fiction Retreat. I’m so thankful to Tiffany Warren for adding the pitch sessions this year. That was the best kick in the rear I needed. So far, one publisher sent a rejection letter, but two other publishers requested the full manuscript. I’ve sent one off this week and I’m getting the other package ready this morning. Now it’s all about waiting.

But I’m not just sitting around, I have 3-4 other stories going now and it’s a matter of choosing which  one to focus on. I’m just as excited to start a new story as I am to finally send my other “babies” out into the world. I will keep you posted.

In the meantime, don’t forget to support my very first fiction publication. Home Again: Stories of Restored Relationships is available for pre-order now.

TyoraMoody.com re-launched

TY's MIX, WIP Updateson August 8th, 20102 Comments

Ty is back! Okay, I never really went anywhere for those who follow all my activities, but I’ve been neglecting my personal site for various reasons. The design isn’t too new because I still love my pink and brown, but the site is organized more like an “author” website now.  I also decided to combine my site and the CookieAisle.com site – so all my devotions, bible studies,  articles and musings are together.

The reason for this shift in thinking.

The release of the anthology, Home Again: Stories of Restored Relationships is only three months away. Promoting the anthology has been an eye-opener. I provide design and marketing services for authors all the time, but walking in their shoes is a different experience.

New Year’s Eve – What are your writing goals?

WIP Updateson December 31st, 20093 Comments

New Year’s Eve is officially here. I’ve had the opportunity to be off from the regular routine for the past two weeks. It was nice to finally relax and take time to be reflective. Even more so, as I mentioned in the previous post, great to get back to writing. As the last day of the year dwindles away, I plan to continue working on a manuscript. Before I jump back into the last few chapters needing edits, I was led to journal about my writing goals.

Countdown to 2010

WIP Updateson December 25th, 2009No Comments

I hope you had a Blessed Christmas Day with family and friends. It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged on my personal blog. Now that the year is winding down, I’m starting to do a bit more reflection. There are some projects left unfinished and other projects that literally grew and took over my time. I will be spending some time praying over what should be the priorities for 2010. One thing for sure, I need to balance my time in such a way where I can focus back on writing.

This year slipped by with me not submitting any queries to agents or publishers who accepted unagented manuscripts. The timing wasn’t there, but I’m hopeful that 2010 will be a time to step out on the water.

Dusting off the manuscript

WIP Updateson August 11th, 20092 Comments

image I’ve had a weird year. I looked at the calendar last week and decided it was time to come out of my period of non-writing. I’ve been knocked back a good bit, keeping me from my goals, but it’s time to dust off the manuscripts.

To kind of help jumpstart me, I decided to finally join Sisters in Crime. Here’s the mission:

“The mission of Sisters in Crime is to promote the professional development and advancement of women crime writers to achieve equality in the industry.”

I downloaded the newsletter tonight and will be reading over it the next few days. I’m excited about the organization and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow as a mystery and suspense writer.

I also have become familiar with the characters in my When Rain Falls manuscript. This is the first book in a three-book series, so I’m hoping in a few weeks to work on the outline for the other two books. Ideas are brewing. :)

Have a Blessed and Joyous New Year!

WIP Updateson December 31st, 2008No Comments

Well, it’s officially the last day of 2008. I am a person who is always looking forward to what’s next, so I’m excited about 2009. Quite a few mailing lists that I’m on are posting about their 2008 goals.  So, the question of the day, “Did you accomplish your goals in 2008 or not?”

My biggest goal was to finish writing a manuscript, the one I had been struggling with since 2006.  I’m thrilled I completed the romantic suspense. It was a struggle between suspense and women’s fiction for some months there. After cutting scenes and taking out characters, I feel pretty good with the final result mainly because I finally told the story.
