A few weeks ago when I posted new photos on Facebook, I received comments about my twist-out. I want to introduce to you some women who have been instrumental in my hair transition. I love the natural hair community on Youtube.com. Hours have gone by with me clicking from one channel to the next, absorbing these sistas’ natural hair journeys. If you have recently decided to go natural or you have been natural for awhile, please “subscribe” to these channels. read more
I have not really been good about blogging or journaling my natural hair transition. One reasons has to do with busyness, and the other reason is sometime last summer I finally “Got it.” Up until August of last year, I had spent so much money on different hair products, trying to figure out what to do with my hair texture. While the product line is expensive, I hit the mark with Carol’s Daughter. The products do last about 3 months for me, sometimes longer. Really depends on how often I wash my hair which is more often during the summer.
Twisting my hair and letting it air dry is pretty much the same method I have been using for the past year. The only difference is now that my hair is longer, I keep the twists bigger. Every once in a while, I may do a twist-out, but I keep my hair protected with the twists by pining my hair back or wearing it in a ponytail. A few years ago, I gave up on wearing ponytails and opted for a short bob cut. Now, I’m happy to have enough hair to pull back into one. LOL!
My sister treated me to Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk earlier this summer. I wasn’t sure about it at first. For my birthday, my sis purchased the Loc Butter. After all the products I’ve tried this year, I can finally say I have found something I like. Thanks sis!
I discovered through trial and error, my hair doesn’t like mineral oil or petroleum. Carol’s Daughter’s products doesn’t use these ingredients. There not totally perfect and are on the expensive side, but they do last awhile. So, these days, the hair milk and Loc Butter are my main products.
I’m suppose to video blog this natural hair posts, but it’s too much trouble to record and edit the video. I need to be writing anyway. LOL!
For some doing a big chop (cutting off all relaxed hair) would work, but I have been determined to have at least 2-3 inches of natural hair before I cut off my relaxed hair. Since November, I have been pretty good with braiding my hair and wearing braid-outs.
Unfortunately, there comes a time when having two textures of hair just start to be a problem. Detangling after washing my hair was starting to make me want to cry. Seriously!
Each year, I like to try new ventures. I’m graphic designer and online book promoter, so I’m always checking out new techniques and studying new ideas. I decided to start video blogging here. For the first topic, I decided to talk about my transition from relaxed hair to natural hair. Now that might not seem very “spiritual”, but this process thus far has been moving me in what I hope to be a positive direction. I’m all about growth and growing to love my natural kinks is going to be major for me this year.
I will be posting links about natural hair and keeping you updated on my process over the next few months.
