30 Days Through the Bible

Nonfictionon January 1st, 2008No Comments

I figured I would add a blog entry for the first day of 2008.  I scoured other blogs today and over at Marilynn Griffith’s blog, she asked her annual question about “your word” for the year. I’m still pondering mine and will reveal it later this week.  It’s an “ouch” word and I know it was tailored made for me, especially after the year I had in 2007. I’ve let and still will be letting things go.

30days-bibleAs far as new beginnings, I did want to get a headstart on finding a personal bible study for 2008.  In the past, I have read (or should I say attempted to read) through the bible by following a reading plan.  This year, I’m starting with a survey of the bible and plan on tackling books of the bible I have not studied as often.

The book I’m currently reading now is 30 Days Through the Bible by F.L. LaGard Smith.

Here’s a description…

Imagine being able to read the Bible from cover to cover in a month…

Now you can do the next best thing! This fastpaced tour of God’s Word will rejuvenate your Bible reading for years to come. As you travel through carefully selected portions of Scripture and the brief devotional comments that tie them together, the Bibles message will become crystal clear and settle more deeply into your heart and mind.

You will discover a new appreciation for the drama of redemption and the story line of Gods people, the clarion call of the prophets and their message for today, and the explosive growth of the church and its glorious future with Christ.

Enjoy a panorama of Scripture and see the big picture as never before God’s purpose for humanity and for your life.

While enjoying time off from work, I started this book and I must say it’s been a great refresher. The NIV scriptures are used within the book along with commentary from the author. I love having bible study books, but I’m also planning on doing my own studies. It’s not always good to read and absorb someone else’s study.

With your favorite bible translation, a journal and a pen – be sure to take the time to meditate on scriptures for yourself.

Over the next few weeks, I will share some of my journal entries as I read through the book of Psalms. Some parts of the bible I have neglected reading are the Psalms. I also want to read the prophets more this year too.  Certain books seem to get glossed over, you know like Leviticus, and oh yeah the last half of Exodus. :)

All of God’s Word is important. There is no guarantee one will understand it all, but with guidance from the Holy Spirit one can learn how to apply necessary lessons.

My goal this year is to write more so be on the lookout for more “Taste and See” devotions.

By the way, Happy New Year!
