A Woman's Walk With God – Session 1
Our bible study group met this past week for our first bible study session, A Woman’s Walk with God by Elizabeth George. We had a wonderful first session! I wanted to point out a few key lessons from the book about the Fruit of the Spirit.
UNDERSTANDING THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
“The fruit of the Spirit has been described as “those gracious habits which the Holy Spirit produces in the Christian. In Galatians 5:22-23, the apostle Paul lists these “gracious habits”: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (p.11)”
“.. we must never forget that all nine fruit stand together… (p.11)”
To cultivate the fruit of the Spirit, we must abide in Christ. How?
1. Spend time in God’s Word
2. Spend time in prayer
3. Obey God’s commands
4. Renew our commitment to Christ
LOVE
Elizabeth George teaches five principles from God’s Word to help us understand Christian love. I encourage you to get a copy of the book to read the principles in full. Most of the ladies during the session were really struck by principle three – Love reaches out to the unlovely. We find it easy to reach out to those who love us back, but what about those who hate or act spitefully towards us.
KEY THOUGHT TO REMEMBER
When one defines love you have to remember LOVE is the sacrifice of self. Love is NOT an emotion (p.32).
GREAT QUOTE
“It helps me [Elizabeth George] as a Christian woman who loves God and yearns for a closer walk with Him to see my call to live out love as an assignment from God to love anyone and everyone He chooses to place in my path (p. 34).”
WHAT’S NEXT
In our next session, we will take a look at the next two fruits, joy and peace.
