Natural Leadership DevelopmentDr. McKinley Johnson, the youngest of seven children writes in his book NATURAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, “The seed of leadership is sown in the heart of every person. However, a leader must be placed in the right environment for this seed to germinate properly.” Whether a leader in the home, church or a large company, McKinley explains that leadership must be God-initiated. In the beginning, Adam and Eve were assigned leadership roles in the Garden of Eden. Despite their failure and “The Fall”, God continued to have a plan for leadership througout the centuries. God’s ultimate fulfillment of leadership came in the place of his son, Jesus Christ, the King of kings. McKinley emphasizes examples from Jesus’ ministry and his training opportunities with the Twelve Apostles.

In today’s news, company’s like Enron failed as the result of greed versus humble servitude. Humbleness was a key characteristic to Jesus’ ministry and all leaders need this characteristic. McKinley points out several times the need for a right relationship with God first and healthy relationships with people.

This was a short, but insightful book. People who don’t consider themselves possessing the capabilities to be a leader may find encouragement, while people currently in leadership positions may be reminded of their main purpose. This book would be good for a leadership training class or for a young leader.
