Taste and See

This was a lazy weekend. Miss Couch Potato was my name. I traded in one box for another. I’m normally on the computer all the time, but I needed a break so I chose to sack out in front of the TV. I rented a few DVD’s and saw a few movies on TV.

I cried at least three times over the weekend, two times at the end of two very different movies and this morning during service. It occurred to me while each circumstance was different, the tears were shed over distinct similarities.

What Trail Are You Hoppin' Down?

I love observing my cat. He is little character dressed up in an orange tabby outfit. When I see him looking out the window, usually another animal has caught his interest. It could be the cat from down the street or a bird in the tree. His pacing motions let me know he wishes he was outside with the trespasser in our yard. Bonefire! Sharing our Stories…Releasing our Fire!

We all have a story. But did you know that no one can tell your story the way that you do? Did you know that others are “dying” to hear your story? We all have experiences that make us remember why we don’t like certain foods or why we hang onto certain habits. It’s the reason many of us hate the dark. It’s the reason we hate to sleep because sleep brings with it, the ghosts of our violated past. Freedom only comes when we no longer allow those memories to hold us captive by keeping us silent.

Now, it is time to walk in freedom’s light! It’s time to tell your story and shout from the mountain tops how the angels lifted you out of harm’s way and how God parted the Red Sea of trials and stopped the advance of your enemies. It’s time to release that fire that is shut up in your powerful bones and live!!!!

I have heard a lot about pride lately. I have listened to it on radio programs and have talked about it a little in a group setting. It is easy to talk about, but not necessarily easy to face. It actually one of those “ouch” moments that one tries to avoid. Looking in the mirror after waking up in the morning, one maybe in for a rude awakening, of sorts. There is no stronger “awakening” as when you look into a spiritual mirror and see yourself as God sees you. read more

Prayer for Ephesians (and Us!)

I finished reading a book last night and the author ended the book with this prayer. It’s actually a prayer that Paul prayed for the Ephesians. Sometimes we don’t know what to pray for, but we only have to look to God’s word to find just the right words. It is a fitting prayer as we approach Holy Week.

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. read more
