Denominations

Musingson March 20th, 2006No Comments

Tonight during bible study, we talked about the power of a praying church. There were a lot of interesting points in this particular chapter. In one particular section where denominations were addressed it states…

“The purpose of denominations should be to organize believers into distinct families, not to erect walls that separate the body of Christ. (The Power of Praying Together, p.137)”

Isn’t that an awesome definition. It makes you ponder a little more the next time you are driving around and you start to think about all the churches around in the neighborhood. Everyone is a distinct family, but is everyone in agreement to be united as the body of Christ?

Esther: God's Woman at God's Time

Nancy Leigh DeMoss has a great study on the book of Esther. It started in February and will continue all month. Esther is one of my favorite women in the bible to study. I found myself learning so much more from her story as it was presented through the program. If you don’t have a radio station near you that offers the Revive Our Hearts program, you can download Itunes for free to listen to the daily broadcast.

Prayer Groups

Have you ever been apart of a prayer group? Last night that was the topic of study. I have never personally been in a prayer group that met on a regular basis nor have I had a prayer partner (last session’s topic). I found this quote something to consider.

“… the best things about being in a prayer group was having the opportunity to pray regularly about something for as long as it took. … they saw the value of continuing to press through in prayer until they saw answers. When praying alone, we can sometimes become discouraged and give up too soon. (The Power of Praying Together, p. 117)”

Eyes of the Heart

We talked a little about how to pray for others during bible study class a few weeks ago. We especially touched on how to pray for someone who needs healing. Healing comes in so many different forms. Sometimes we only think of the physical ailments, but so many people need to be spiritually healed. Their heart simply does not seem to be able to see that God is very real! His “interventions” occur in the spiritual realm and don’t necessarily involve a magical pill or immediate cure. He is definitely working out a plan!

During a devotion a couple of months ago, I came across this verse in Ephesians. I have started to use it in my prayers for truly the Enemy sets up blind spots. People need to be encouraged in their faith walk.

“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints”. – Ephesians 1:18 NIV
