Clouds of Comfort

Looking out the window, the only term I could find to describe the view in front of me, “Awesome.” There have been many times in my (almost) 34 years I have admired the clouds as a driver and as a passenger. This time I was a passenger, but I was not on the ground. Instead several thousand feet up in the air, I viewed the fluffiness of the clouds up close. I imagine looking through the window of a plane, we get a small glimpse of how God must view us all on Earth as we go about our daily life.

I had the opportunity to fly for the second time this year. Well, actually the second time during my adult life. My first plane trip occurred many, many years ago and my mom has more memories about the experience than I do. This year I flew to Washington, D.C. and Mobile, A.L. Arriving back from Alabama today, this trip was a little different. Although I had only flown two times, I felt like a experienced traveler as I dragged my handy carry-on behind me. Hundreds of folks, including me were hurrying to their destination. Some to catch the next flight, some like me, ready to get home!

Have you ever thought about your final destination? Have you thought about your eternal home? As we painfully watch the demise of our world, have you ever wondered about that Day? The day when the King of Kings arrives upon the clouds!

“I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Mark 14:62 NIV

After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 NIV

That Day I imagine all the hustle and bustle would stop immediately all over the world as people simultaneously look up at the clouds. Will the view from the clouds be a source of a comfort for you?
